Student Council 

Student Council is a democratically-elected representative student organization that serves as Oakwood's student government. Comprised of junior and senior officers and representatives from each grade level, Student Council works to articulate student voice, effect campus change, coordinate student clubs and organizations, and plan annual extracurricular activities such as Halloween Event and Semi-Formal. 

Student Organizations & Clubs

Secondary students drive the start-up of many of the clubs and organizations in which they participate. 

• Amnesty International – International organization that works to secure human rights and aid people around the world whose rights have been violated. 

• Choreolab – A student led after-school company. 

• Cultural Awareness – Seeks to promote awareness of different cultures and religions. Cultural Awareness Association provides a safe environment for regular opportunities for thoughtful discussions on sensitive or controversial topics regarding culture, gender, religion, and race. 

• Gay Straight Alliance – A group of straight, gay, lesbian, and bisexual students and adults working together on issues involving gender and sexual orientation. 

• High School Debate Club – Students develop advanced speaking, thinking and listening skills necessary to compete in debate competitions throughout the year. 

• High/Elementary School Cultural Perspectives Mentoring Program– An after-school class taught by high school students to Oakwood elementary students that explores diversity and inclusion through fun, hands-on activities, books, short films and lively conversation. 

• High School Mock Trial – Students participate in a state-wide competition simulating the legal process and exposing them to a variety of legal issues and concepts. 

• Human Rights Watch Student Task Force – Students work in conjunction with other local high schools and the Human Rights Watch to advocate for human rights in California and across the globe.

• Leading Everyone Against Distracted Driving (LEADD) - An organization that seeks to enlighten students about the dangers of distracted driving and provide ways to overcome the temptation to do so.

• Middle School Debate Club – Students develop speaking, thinking and listening skills necessary to compete in debate competitions throughout the year. 

• Oakwood Students Against Drunk Driving (OSADD) – Seeks to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, impaired driving and other destructive decisions. 

• Oakwood Students for Progressive Reform (OSPR) – Provides a forum for the dissemination of information which aims to counterbalance mainstream media via e-newsletters and discussion groups. 

• Oakwood Robotics Team – Team members design and build a robot to compete in national and regional high school robotics competitions. 

• Somos Unidos– A group of students and adults of Hispanic heritage that meets bi-weekly to share and reflect on their experiences, with the goal of empowering and supporting students, and promoting the richness and diversity of Hispanic and Latino culture within and outside of Oakwood 

• Student Admission Committee – Interviews prospective students and participates in Prospective Parent events.  

• Student Sports Council – Members communicate information regarding upcoming sports events and accomplishments to the Oakwood community; they play school spirit events, and serve as a resource for student athletes. 

• Women's Awareness Club – A group of interested female students and adults meet to discuss women's issues in the media, politics, school environments, and business.
